Ms Shulamith Koenig - founder and president of PDHRE - was the recipient of the 2003 United Nations Prize in the field of Human rights!
PDHRE International was created in 1989 with the objective of promoting human rights education. It played a key role in creating the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education (1995 - 2004). From it's beginning, it has developed, strengthened and facilitated the apprenticeship, training and diffusion of human rights throughout the world, in all levels of society.
Since the year 2000, PDHRE International, has sought to promote regional chapters to facilitate human rights education in a more intense and effective manner. With this goal, PDHRE International opened offices in Africa, the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and South Asia. These offices attempt to develop programs and materials for the use of human rights capacitation including a system of holistic values protected by international law.
Each regional office of PDHRE develops Regional Institutes for Human Rights Education (RIHRE's).
